Tutorial: Importing Objects
This subject can be a little confusing for some beginners because you have to know where to import a specific type of file into Bryce.
Rule: "If the file was created or exported by Bryce, you import it in the preset libraries, otherwise, it gets imported from the File:Import Object menu."
That said, how do you know what is from Bryce? Well, look at the file type, if is .OBP, .MAT, .BRT, or .BSK, its from Bryce3 or Bryce4. Files that end with .SKY and .SHD came from Bryce2. Unfortunately .SHD is also used by some other programs so you may get an error on those files. Also, Bryce2 used .OBJ for objects. This is the same extention that WaveFront uses. In all likelyhood, you should treat .OBJ files as NOT coming from Bryce unless something with the file (readme) tells you otherwise. If you are looking at a BRC, BR3 or BR4 file, those are scene files, you don't import those, use the File:Open menu.
Anything else is probably from another program and should be imported through the File:Import Object menu.

This is where you import ANYTHING that was not originally exported from Bryce. |
Ok, lets assume you have a nice material file (file type of .MAT)...Click the small triangle next to EDIT:

The
next to CREATE is
for importing objects (.OBP), the one next to SKY&FOG is for importing
Skies (.BSK). The small arrows bring up their respective preset library
windows as seen here:

Now, since we are doing a material file, we need to have the Materials library open as seen here. You will need to select the category that you want to place the material into. In Bryce, once you have imported a material/object, there is no way to easily move it to another category other than deleting it in one and re-importing it into another. Once you have the category selected, click the This same proceedure applies to objects (.OBP) as well. Skies Library has no category so you just go for the |
