Weather Station Details
The weather station is a LaCrosse model WX-2310TWC purchased from Blain's Farm and Fleet. The station is located in Milwaukee Wisconsin near Howard Av and 6th St (very close to the Howard Av water plant and the Town of Lake water tower). The monitoring computer is a Pentium3 533 home built machine. I wrote custom software to aquire the data from the station and store in an acceess database. I wrote additional custom software to process the data to send it to Weather Underground, to feed my webserver the data, and to produce an image that is shown on my ReplayTVs in pause mode and software to generate the graphs on this page. I also wrote the scripts that are used to display this page. The gauges on this page were modeled and rendered in Bryce5.5.

Here is a photo of the station:

You can view my Weather Underground page here. The station ID is KWIMILWA16 if you want to do any searches.

Sensors:
Update 06/04/2006 - I finally got around to upgrading the mast system for the sensors. For the past few months wind and rain data was incorrect because squirrls (or maybe birds) gnawed through the wires leading to the two sensors. I have re-located both sensors to the new mast and replaced the stock cheap flat phone cable with Cat-5e network cable thats better shielded. I also ran the wires through the inside of the metal mast and put bird "thorns" on the top of the mast to make it unconfortable for them to sit there. Hopefully this will prevent future chewings.

Wind - Mounted on a 25' mast attached to the northern end of our house. The sensor is approximately 15' above the roof peak. No significant trees within 40' radius. Some treens at about 70' south-west of the sensor with additional trees lining our street that are about 120' east of the sensor.

Temp/Humidity/Preassure - Mounted in a shaded location with substantial wind blockage by building and hedge. The location was intentional to restrict full sun influence on the readings as well as reduce effects of solar warmed surrounding objects. I believe this location will produce more accurate actual air temperatures with less influence of radiated heat from surrounding objects.

Rain - Mounted on the same mast as the wind sensor. Normally rain sensors are mounted on the ground but due to structures and plants this was not practical and most other locations would have blocked wind driven rain from many directions. Its also away from the hands of granddaughters and their friends who were inscessantly playing with it.
